Work Without
Losing Benefits

Many people worry about losing their benefits if they get a job. There are special resources you may be able to use so that you don't lose your benefits. These resources include:

  • Benefits Counseling
Ticket to Work Hotline: Contact the help line at 1-866-968-7842 (TTY: 1-866-833-2967); Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-8 p.m., or send an email to support@choosework.ssa.gov.
DETAILS: Information on all of the work incentives that are available to you as you find a job and will support you in understanding how you can have a job and keep your benefits. This counseling will give you information and answer your questions about competitive integrated employment and whether your job will meet your financial needs and employment goals.

    Additional Benefits Counseling Resources:

  • Medical Assistance for Workers with Disabilities (MAWD)
DETAILS: This program lets you enroll or stay enrolled in Medicaid even when you are earning money. MAWD has high income and resource limits and flexible work and disability requirements.

  • PA ABLE Savings Program
DETAILS: Accounts allow you and your family to save for many different disability-related expenses. These savings are an addition to, not a replacement of, your benefits and do not affect your eligibility for programs like Medicaid.
