Employment & Supportive Services for People with Disabilities in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is strongest when we include the talents and skills of all people. Our goal at the Department of Human Services is to ensure that Pennsylvanians with disabilities have what they need to live better and have more independence. That includes offering the services and supports needed so that individuals across the commonwealth with disabilities are able to find good jobs that they enjoy without losing the assistance and benefits they rely on.

Pennsylvania is an Employment First state. This means that one of the first considerations — and the preferred outcome — of employment supports for participants with a disability is competitive integrated employment. Competitive, integrated employment means that an individual with a disability earns minimum wage or better and works in a setting where the majority of workers don't have a disability, is paid directly by the employer and not by a service provider, and is presented with opportunities for advancement.

There are many resources to help you prepare and find a good job. There are also resources you can take advantage of in order to work without losing the benefits you need in many cases.
