Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Participation Project Grantees
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) funds and works with thirteen Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to reach out to populations that tend to not use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The CBO staff gives people and families an explanation of their potential SNAP benefit. This helps people make an informed decision about whether or not to apply for SNAP.
The CBOs also help people apply by using COMPASS to submit applications online. CBOs can even track application progress and help people through the whole process. This partnership has increased SNAP participation and expanded education about the benefit to more people.
