The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services whose mission is to ensure effective, up-to-date health care coverage and to promote quality care for beneficiaries of the Medical Assistance programs. CMS is promoting Health IT initiatives as part its goal to promote a transformed and modernized health care system in the United States.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is the principal Federal entity charged with coordination of nationwide efforts to implement and use the most advanced health information technology and the electronic exchange of health information. The position of National Coordinator was created in 2004, through an Executive Order, and legislatively mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) of 2009.

Health Information Organizations (HIOs) Webinars Now Available!
Quality Insights, our outreach, training and technical assistance partners, held several webinars with Pennsylvania's HIOs that offer the provider community the chance to learn about the HIOs and what they do. There are currently 5 HIOs in the state. Four of the HIOs held webinars; you can link to them below. The sessions run about 30 minutes each. Be sure to click the play button when the viewer opens. Previous Information Sessions and Listening Tours
The Department of Human Services held a series of listening tours across the commonwealth to present the vision of the MA Health IT initiative to key stakeholders and obtain their input on the process. These tours were designed to engage community partners and providers in the development of strategic health information technology initiatives.
