Bureau of Child Support Enforcement

The Bureau of Child Support Enforcement continually exceeds the national average for the collection of monthly child support payments. Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation to meet or exceed all five performance standards that the federal government sets in determining effectiveness of state child support enforcement programs. Those five measures are:

  1. Determining the paternity of the child
  2. Establishing child support orders through the local courts
  3. Collecting current monthly child support
  4. Collecting overdue child support
  5. Being cost-effective in the administration of child support collection

Pennsylvania's child support enforcement program is a joint effort involving the Department of Human Services's Bureau of Child Support Enforcement and the County Courts of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Sections within the 67 Pennsylvania counties.
