SNAP Challenge

The Department of Human Services oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, in Pennsylvania. Teresa Miller, secretary of the Department of Human Services, took the SNAP Challenge from Sept. 24-28, 2018, in honor of Hunger Action Month, but you can take it yourself or show your support for SNAP at any time!

What is the Challenge?

The SNAP Challenge asks you to live on the SNAP budget for one week. The planning guide has budget amounts listed by family size.

Why the SNAP Challenge?

Secretary Miller waned to know firsthand the experience of Pennsylvanians who rely on SNAP benefits to fill their cupboards. "I am so honored to serve vulnerable Pennsylvanians who depend on DHS services, and this will help me better understand their personal circumstances," Secretary Miller says.
